Development Empowerment Women Association (DEWA) was an initiative of women entrepreneurs group consists of twenty-five women from Lower Dir who participated in training during ILO Program “Training & Employment for Rural Women- bees keeping and Enterprise Development”. After the skills and knowledge acquired from trainings the group started working at community level to enhance women economic empowerment. The group successfully supported women at the local level and decided to expand the scope of their services to other parts of the district. For this purpose DEWA was registered with Social Welfare Department under the Voluntary Social Welfare Agencies (Registration and Control) Ordinance 1961 (XLVI of 1961) on 20th April 2002. The organization aims to address the issues of vulnerable and marginalized groups of society including women, girls, children, youth, minorities, transgender and persons with disabilities. Along-with women economic empowerment considering the needs of community the organization extended its operations to other sectors including livelihood improvements, health, education, human rights, infrastructure, environmental protection, conservation, awareness and social mobilization. DEWA has vast outreach in district lower and upper Dir.
